PARVATHA CHIDAMBARAM...the artistic director of 'Bharata'- the school of Indian and dance and Music, Rochester NY, is an ardent disciple of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, a world renowned Classical Dancer & a research scholar of phenomenal repute.  She has received specialized training in Bharata Nrityam-the margi technique of pedagogy authentically based on Bharata's Natya Sastra. This technique was revived by her guru after years of research on the subject.

As an ARTIST... Parvatha always felt the touch and importance of fine arts in every aspect of life. She underwent 15 years of rigorous training from the very young age of 7 in the "Gurukula Pattern" in Nrityodaya - The institution which is more than 60 years old and from where a number of excellent dancers emerged. She has been awarded the diplomas Nritya Pravesika and Nritya visaradha by the institution which has vast recognition-after passing very strict and extensive examinations in the theoretical practical aspects of classical dance. This also encompassed nattuvangam(playing the cymbals), classical music and teachers training. She has also learnt and practised the 108 karanas which has been the result of her guru's doctoral research

Parvatha's STAGE PERFORMANCES...started with her arangetram in 1989. Since then, Parvatha performed all over India, and in various prestigious sabhas in Chennai as a soloist and along with her guru. She has played some important roles in many of her Guru's dance ballets such as Meenakshi kalyanam, Kuravanji, Thevaram, Shri gurave namaha, Pavai nonbu,Vande mataram and many more. She has also performed in Doordarshan and other TV channels. She represented India, in the Festival of India at Thailand in 1996. After moving to the United States in 1998 Parvatha has kept up to her passion for the art and rendered group and solo performances  at the India Community centre, Rochester, New York. and the Memorial Art gallery at several occasions. Had the opportunity to perform at the  Shiva Vishnu Temple and Murugan Temple in Washington D.C. She who has been awarded the title "Natya Kalaba Mayil" by the cultural association, Kumbakonam, shares that it was a  great honour to have performed in front of Sri Swami Dayananda, the Acharya of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam.(Saylorsburg). She also had the wonderful opportunity of rendering a solo music performance for the Celebration of Music and Dance Festival at The Hochstein School of Music and Dance, and was screened  in a documentary " Identity Through Art" which featured her as one of the Rochester's  6 Asian American artists.

The THEORETICAL ASPECT... of this art has interested Parvatha equally and she who has imbibed her guru's eagerness to bridge the gap between theory and practice, has participated in various lecture demonstration. She has produced a paper on the "Link between Tamil Literature & Natya Sastra" at a teenager's symposium.

Imbibing the intricacies and purity of this art form with a multi-dimensional and multi-disciplined approach she combines it with her aesthetic sensibility that highlights her performances in their creative and classical aspect.
